AirBaltic Refund for Cancellation

AirBaltic refund for cancellation.

Do you qualify for it? If so, what are the rules in place?

The rules are stipulated in European Regulation (EC) No 261/2004, which clearly describes the obligations of airlines and your rights as a passenger. This regulation sheds light on the procedures European airlines must adhere to when a flight is cancelled, and what you are entitled to in such circumstances. There are two most likely situations/scenarios.

AirBaltic Refund For Cancellation

There are two potential scenarios.

So, let’s begin with one question — when was your flight cancelled?

Scenario 1: Flight Is Cancelled Less Than 2 Weeks Before the Journey

You can obtain: Refund or alternative flight + flight cancellation compensation (if it’s due to the mistake of airBaltic).

This is regarded as a last-minute flight cancellation.

When airBaltic cancels your flight less than 14 days prior to your journey, they must offer two solutions: a complete refund for cancellation or a new reservation to your intended destination. You are free to select the alternative that best suits you. If the cancellation was due to airBaltic’s oversight, you may be eligible for flight cancellation compensation.

Both the refund and compensation must be wired to your bank account.

Scenario 2: Flight Is Cancelled More Than 2 Weeks Before the Journey

You can obtain: Refund or alternative flight to your destination.

If your flight is cancelled more than 14 days before the journey, you are not entitled to compensation. However, you still have the choice to obtain a refund instead of the flight. AirBaltic is obligated to give you the option between a new flight or a refund, and you have the right to select the solution that best fits your needs.

You should receive your airBaltic refund within 7 days. The same applies to scenario 1, and if you go for the refund instead of a new flight. You don’t have to accept an airBaltic voucher.

Visit airBaltic’s website to check the status of your refund request.

What Happens If You Miss a Connecting Flight Due to Cancellation?

In the event of a flight cancellation that results in you missing your connecting flight, airBaltic will arrange a new flight to your destination at no additional cost.

What about flight compensation? The same rules apply as for delayed flights. You should check how much later you will reach your destination compared to the original arrival time. If it’s 2 or more hours, you might be entitled to flight delay compensation.

If My Flight Is Cancelled, Do I Get a Refund?

If you are traveling with airBaltic, and it’s a flight from or to Europe, then yes.

AirBaltic Voucher Refund or Cash, Can I Get Money?

What if airBaltic is offering you a voucher instead of compensation?

If airBaltic offers you a voucher as an alternative to monetary compensation, you can decline and request cash instead. It is crucial to remember that European Union regulations (Regulation (EC) No 261/2004) mandate airlines to provide compensation and refunds in cash or through bank transfer.

Have you already received a voucher?

Request airBaltic to convert travel voucher into cash.

What If airBaltic Is Refusing Refund For Cancellation?

If airBaltic is refusing to offer you a refund, don’t be discouraged.

Bear in mind that you have the right to demand one. You can refer to Regulation (EC) No 261/2004, Articles 5 and 8, which mandate airlines to refund passengers in specific situations. If airBaltic still doesn’t comply, reach out to the national enforcement body in the country where your flight originated for further assistance.

Can You Get Both Compensation and Refund?

Yes, there are instances when you can receive both.

If airBaltic cancels your flight less than 14 days prior to departure due to their mistake, you are qualified for a full refund as well as compensation from airBaltic. Remember that the refund and compensation must be transferred to your bank account and not given as vouchers.

I Chose a Refund, But I Haven’t Received It Yet, What Should I Do?

If you have not received your refund within seven days, we recommend you to get in touch with airBaltic customer service. It may be a delay in the bank transfer, but if the delay extends beyond a reasonable window, you should consider seeking further assistance or legal action.

I Was Offered a Later Flight, Will airBaltic Cover My Accommodation?

Yes, if your flight is cancelled and you are offered a replacement flight that departs the next day, airBaltic is responsible for your accommodation and transfers between the airport and the hotel. This is called the right to care.

What Happens If I Accept a Voucher and Then Change My Mind?

If you initially accepted a voucher but now wish to have a refund, you can contact airBaltic and request to have the value of the voucher refunded to your bank account.

However, the final decision lies with airBaltic.

Can I Claim for a Cancelled Flight I Booked Through a Travel Agency?

Yes, even if you booked your flight through a travel agency, you are still eligible for a refund and/or compensation in the event of a cancellation. The agency should assist you in claiming your rights, but ultimately the obligation lies with airBaltic.

What Happens If I Cancel My airBaltic Flight, Not The Airline?

If you choose to cancel your flight, the refund depends on the fare conditions of your ticket. Some tickets are non-refundable, while others may be partially refundable with certain fees deducted.

It’s important to review the fare conditions during the booking process. In most cases, if you cancel your flight, you are not entitled to any compensation as it’s not the airline’s responsibility. If you have travel insurance, check with your provider as they may cover some costs depending on the reason for cancellation.
